"def jam fight for ny xbox iso" is a fighting video game series developed and published by EA Canada. The series began on the PlayStation in 2000 with Def Jam Vendetta. Since then, four more titles have been released: Def Jam Fight for NY (2004), Saints Row (2006), Def Jam: Icon (2008) and Tekken 6 (2009). The series focuses on hip hop artists competing in underground street fights. It is heavily influenced by the Beat'em up genre of video games that include arcade classics such as Final Fight and Streets of Rage. The player controls a single character across five stages, each taking place in a different location. The stages vary in their complexity and difficulty, and many factors such as the time limit and health of the opponent play into the outcome of the fight. Each stage is made up of three rounds. The first round is composed entirely of simple button mashing, while the other two rounds require more strategy and precision. Each round requires both players to rack up points by landing attacks and dodging incoming blows; failing to do so will cause one or both characters to be knocked out. Each character is switched when they are knocked out, making for multiple fights each with different characters on stage per round. As the player continues to win, their fighter's rank increases. The game features ten different fighting styles, each based on an aspect of the fighters' personalities. Each character possesses unique fighting styles and finishing moves; however, each fits into one of two categories: Power or Agility. Power characters rely on brute force to pummel their opponent into submission while Agility characters use speed and agility to gain the upper hand. The games are considered Grand Theft Auto-style "sandbox" games with the options of some side missions, some reaching story-arcs that continue between installments. It also features over forty songs as its musical score, as well as many unlockable content such as clothing, haircuts and tattoos.
The first installment in the "def jam fight for ny" series, "Def Jam Vendetta", was released on December 2, 2000 for the PlayStation, and had a metascore of 83% at the time of release. The game had a total of seven characters on which to fight on five stages. The player had three rounds of fighting against colorful caricatures that included Eminem, Busta Rhymes, E-40 and Mobb Deep.
The story begins with a gang called "The Four Horsemen" breaking up two rival crews. The first is a Chinese street gang known as "The Red Dragons", and a Hip Hop group called "Red Dragon Cartel". The Red Dragons were composed of Maseo, Shaheem, and Craig G. They have been rivals with The Horsemen for several years. The second crew was Red Dragon Cartel which comprised Papo, Jadakiss, and Styles P. All of them have been rivals with the Horsemen for several years until they met at an underground fight club organized by Mr. Ford. After the two crews are defeated by Horsemen member D-Mob, he makes them enter into his "Vendetta" competition in order to get revenge on the owner of Tompkins Projects, Mr. Kilpatrick .
